JUNK MAIL

Junk Mail Reduction

Mail:

Going to the mailbox these days is becoming an alternative to weight lifting at the gym. Unfortunately, there is no centralized "opt out" registry for mail (like the very successful "Do Not Call" registry for telephone solicitations) but here's several resources to significantly reduce junk mail.

Credit Card Offers:

One of the most common mailbox stuffers are credit card offers. The three major credit bureaus sell our information to credit card companies when our information meets the credit card companies pre-screening criteria. You can “opt-out” of these offers for 2-years:

Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688), or go to www.optoutprescreen.com.

Weekly/Regular Mailings (Grocery Store & Others):

ADVO (Provides lists to lots of smaller companies): 888.241.6760 or 800.695.0957

Albertson’s (& Sav-On): 877.932.7948

Food For Less (& Ralph’s): 888.437.3496

Henry’s: 877.743.6797

Local Values (Union Tribune): 619.293.1544

Money Mailer: jrapolla@moneymailers.com

Penny Saver: 760.599.1400

Ralph’s (& Food For Less): 888.437.3496

Safeway (& Vons): 877.723.3929 or 626.821.7000

Sav-On (& Albertson’s): 877.932.7948

Shop Wise (via ADVO): 888.241.6760 or 800.695.0957

Val Pak: click http://www.coxtarget.com/mailsuppression/s/DisplayMailSuppressionForm

Vons (& Safeway): 877.723.3929 or 626.821.7000

“Occupant” or “Current Owner” Mailings:

In this category of mail, unfortunately, there is only one option to make a dent in the volume. For companies that are registered with the Direct Marketing Association (www.the-dma.org), you can opt-out for 5 years by registering online at: https://www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailing or by writing them at: Direct Marketing Association, Mail Preference Service, PO Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512.

EMAIL:

Spam is a HUGE problem.  There is no centralized place yet to “opt out” of all email advertising but the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) claims to have the beginnings of an opt out database: https://www.dmaconsumers.org/consumerassistance.html

TELEPHONE:

This national registry has been widely successful in reducing telephone solicitations. To get your numbers added, call 888.382.1222 or register online at www.donotcall.gov.
